Andrew Perroy has been appointed Managing Director for the U.S. region.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (December 17, 2020) Vivino, the world’s largest online wine marketplace and the world’s most downloaded application, adds a key leader to its U.S. team in an environment of record growth. Andrew Perroy is the company’s new CEO for America. It will be based in San Francisco and will work with U.S. management to focus on further growth and profitability. According to Statista, industry analysts estimate the US wine market at nearly $100 billion, with the United States and Canada accounting for the largest share.
Andrew is the right man for the job at the right time, says Haynie Zachariassen, founder of Vivino. We have seen 100% year-on-year growth. It is on this growth that we will build. Sales of Vivino’s Black Friday on Cyber Monday this year were two and a half times as high as in the same period last year.
Zacharias attributes this growth to a combination of circumstances – more people spending more time at home – combined with top strategy and smart technology. We are seeing a fundamental change in consumer behavior, and our technology allows us to effectively adapt to this change in consumer behavior, he added. It’s a change in the way people select, buy, understand and ultimately enjoy wine.
I’m very excited to join this team, especially now. Vivino has been responsible for some remarkable changes in this industry and I can’t think of a better time to be at the forefront of a major upheaval, Andrew Perroy said. Vivino is expected to reach 10 million users in the United States alone, for a total of 17 million users across America. We will use this momentum in consumer behaviour to drive additional growth in the Americas, for example in Brazil, where we believe the opportunity is ideal given the organic growth we have already experienced there.
America is the largest regional market for this 10-year-old company. Vivino’s co-founders, Zachariases and Theis Sondergaard, are more optimistic about the coming years. We are in a perfect place for our development and progress, Zacharias suggested. We are seeing a tectonic shift in consumer behavior and now attribute this to Andrew’s success in managing e-commerce and his early understanding of the business. He is a great addition to Vivino at the perfect time. We’re very happy to have him on board.
The appointment of Mr Perroy follows the appointment of the new management in the United Kingdom last month. Like several other top managers at Vivino, he spent some time at NakedWines.com before taking over the company in 2017.
Vivino was founded in 2010 by Zachariassen and Sondergaard. They were frustrated by the difficulty of choosing a good bottle of wine and knowing which wines to buy. The company has grown ten years in a row. Vivino sold nearly $150 million worth of wine worldwide in 2019 and expects this amount to more than double by 2020, thanks to a community of 48 million wine lovers. The five-star Vivino classification system is currently the largest voice of wine consumers in the world.
Vivino gives people everywhere the opportunity to enjoy wine to the fullest. Vivino is the world’s largest online wine marketplace and the most downloaded application, powered by a community of millions. Vivino’s unique wine buying experience uses community data to offer personalized wine recommendations. This makes discovering and buying wine fun and easily accessible for wine lovers of all experience levels. The Vivino app can be downloaded on Android and Apple devices.
